As the word defines, ‘boarding’ means to board or stay. So boarding school is an educational institution that provides student education while actually staying in the school. The school has always been called the second home to the students, but a boarding school becomes the actual home of the students. It is like a home far from home.
The boarding schools in India provide students with staying facilities along with food facilities. The students stay with their fellow classmates and the teachers the whole year except the times of vacation when they visit home. Therefore these institutions not just provide education and morals but also fulfills the emptiness of the students. The teachers and mentors are next to parents, seniors are like elder brothers and sisters, and the fellow mates are either like younger siblings or friends. There the students create their own family apart from their blood family.
Before entering a child into any boarding school, it is important that parents verify the living environment and the education system of the school because the child is going to be far from the shadow of their parents all alone into a very different world. This is more like experiencing the real world at a very basic age with no support or a shoulder to cry on; this basically happens when the child is new, then when time heals everything, and the child gets used to the new place, everything gets settled.
The boarding school has a lot of benefits as the child is disconnected from all the distractions so that he/she can focus more on their studies. Also, the students stay with their mentors and teachers, so whenever they face any academic query, they are present by their side to help them.
They learn a lot about life in a boarding school as everything cannot be taught. Some things are meant to be experienced. The diversity in the atmosphere there is one of the best assets of boarding school. Pupils learn about different human behaviors and how to tackle different situations with them. They are on their own there, so they get better aware of who they should trust and rely on for their worst times.
Living in diversity in unity is the main motive there. Learning with each other and learning from each other, coordinating with each other, helping and caring for each other, and always being with each other because the power of individuals multiplied several times when brought all together. This is the best option for those parents who are unable to look after their children due to imbalanced working hours or career issues, or other reasons.
But the life of a boarding school student is not perfect. It might seem fascinating, but the reality is quite harsh for young minds. The child is there all by himself. Not just in terms of physical labor like doing laundry or room cleaning or managing school works but also from an emotional point of view.
Their students have a better understanding, but there is no one like your mother who will give you a shoulder to cry on or rely on every time; also, there are no arms that could help you to climb the heights you want or medicate you when you get injured. Most of the time, the students do not intake the proper amount of diet in their boarding schools as the food does not taste good as well as there are hygiene issues.
This affects the student’s health, and these health issues sometimes become a lifetime problem. The rules and regulations of a boarding school are strict about pressuring students to maintain discipline and score well in their academics. The extra-curricular activities also get marginalized in boarding schools.
It is best if you place your child by your side at least till the basic age. The boarding schools should be preferred for kids only if all the other options are unsuitable in those circumstances.
